We all know, especially girls, how it feels to have cellulite, how it feels to try and hide that cellulite during the whole summer, and, of course, we all know how frustrating it is to fight the cellulite. Believe it or not, your choices regarding the food are your most powerful weapons or your worst enemies.

No matter how old you are, or what is your weight, we can bet that the reason you’re here is that you have already learned on your own skin what the cellulite is. But, girls, especially you should know that this is not only your problem. Men are also susceptible – only 3% of them indeed, but they are! The abdominal area on men can be problematic, while the women, of course, can have it in various parts of the body, like arms, thighs, buttocks.

First of all, what the cellulite actually is?

It’s a nightmare, that’s what it is! You agree? We believe you do.

Besides that, the cellulite is a deposit of fat lying under your skin and pushing it, giving it the lumpy, and dimpled appearance. Also known as adiposis edematosa, or gynoid lipodystrophy, in the medical field.

And also known as the orange peel syndrome, or cottage cheese skin.

What can be a cause of getting cellulite?

Well, unfortunately, there are many things that can cause you the cellulite, so the fact is that there isn’t a unique solution for it neither. Of course, its appearance can be explained by so many factors, and here are some of them:

  • Bad lifestyle in general
You know what we are talking about.
About that whole bottle of wine, you drank on this Saturday night and you didn’t even notice. Or about that pack of cigarettes you trying to hide (from yourself) under the cocktail table in your living room. Or about that box of ice cream you have eaten by yourself that other night when you had a little fight with your boyfriend…

  • Sitting position
If you overdo the sitting, and you’re lazy in general, well, that’s one of the reasons you won’t have the ideal smooth skin this summer! Besides that it will cause you the cellulite, sitting might cause you some several health issues: problems with your back and spine, the general incorrect posture of your body, and bad circulation.
We know that the modern life makes us tightly connected to a computer – while we’re working, and while we’re not – but it’s time to do something about that. Become more active, and trust us, you will see some changes really quickly.

  • Stress
This little devil is really hard to fight to. Every day’s problems, even those small ones, can destroy our health (and our looks) for good! It’s really not a misapprehension, stress is truly the cause number one of general health problems worldwide.

  • Genetics
It’s a difficult one to deal with because it’s really not your fault and you can’t do much about it. But, you can still do something… Try to eliminate all the other causes, all bad habits and to work for your skin instead of being reconciled. Also, change your diet in order to boost your metabolism. Some changes will happen!

What should I NOT eat?

There are some nutrients that work for your health and your skin, but there is also some food that can only make things worse and even cause you the cellulite. So if you think about it, we could eventually agree that sometimes the cellulite is our personal choice.

Here’s what you should avoid if you want to get rid of the cottage cheese skin:

  • White sugar
This little problem is absolutely unnecessary in your daily diet! Why?
Because it consists of empty calories: those that have only one cause – to stick to your abdomen and your waist.
You can replace the white sugar on a daily basis with the brown sugar, honey, or some other type of sweetener.

  • Canned soup or instant soup
Why would you even eat that when you a homemade soup is one of the best things you could possibly eat? We know, it’s true that it’s a quick solution for your break, or for the dinner.
But canned soups are full of salt, which might cause water retention and dimpling. And we all know that the body truly needs the water to fight against the cellulite.

  • Sweetened beverages and soda
These enemies are causing your body to produce less collagen, the protein that makes your skin smooth. So, if you really want to get rid of the cellulite, you should definitely stop with energy drinks and sodas.

  • Cottage cheese
An obvious one. The cottage cheese causes the cottage cheese skin, and it happens because of the Sodium. One cup of this food carries 700 milligrams of the salt… And we already talked about the salt.
Instead of eating cottage cheese for breakfast, you should try the Greek yogurt, which contains less salt, and more protein.

  • Pizza
    (Sorry)
Pizza is rich in unhealthy fat, which weakens your connective tissues, and makes your skin rippling. Here’s an explanation from Yasi Ansari, a dietitian:
A diet high in unhealthy fats can slow blood circulation and oxygen flow. As a result, connective tissues weaken, making skin rippling more apparent.

Then, what should I eat to fight cellulite?

You’ll be surprised when you realize the quantity of products that are NOT bad for your skin and your health. Yes, it’s true; the food that it’s bad for you is usually more delicious… Of course, we know that cauliflower, cabbage or detox water isn’t actually what you crave for. But, the list of the food that won’t cause you the cellulite (or make that existing one even worse) is quite long.

Let’s take a look on what you should eat to get rid of the cellulite:

  • Water
This was the obvious one. We know you heard a thousand times that you must drink enough water in order to maintain your health and the good look. A human body needs 1 to 1.5 milliliters of water per each calorie consumed during a day. That is, on average, 9 cups of water daily for women, and 13 cups of water for men.

what to eat to fight cellulite
Special tip: when it comes to iced water, your body needs more energy to warm it up, so, it will, in process, burn some calories. Drink iced water to help your diet, but don’t exaggerate, because you might catch some cold.

  • Food rich in vitamin C
Vitamins, especially vitamin C helps you fight the cellulite. Why? Because it helps your body to increase the level of the collagen, the structural protein found in connective tissues. The lack of collagen might cause your skin form the cellulite, so, you should use this food to fight it while you can…

Food with the high level of vitamin C is:
    Grapefruit
    Orange
    Lemon
    Pineapple
    Broccoli
    Tangerine

  • Egg white
The avian egg white functions as a shock absorber, keeps the yolk in place, constitutes an antimicrobial barrier, and provides water, protein and other nutrients to the developing embryo. Besides these biological roles it is an inexpensive source of high quality protein for food industries, explains the journal Proteome Science.Egg white is a great source of protein, but it is not so rich in calories (just 17), so it really is the ideal part of your diet.

  • Food rich in Omega-3 fatty acids
The ones that improve your blood circulation, which is very important for avoiding the creation of new cellulite, and also for fighting the existing one:
    Salmon
    Sardines
    Navy beans
    Anchovies
    Walnuts
    Chia seeds

Before you plan your diet, you should promise yourself that you will change some things and some habits in your life. Not just because you want to see results in your war against the cellulite, but also because human body (including the skin) needs healthy habits, real food, and a lot of persistence.
